Adaptable Catering Trailers
A catering pod is the lightest way into mobile catering. It is a compact towable unit fitted out with the same stainless counters, plumbing and electrics as a full size catering trailer, in a body small enough for an ordinary car to tow.
Chris Trailers builds them in Manchester from 2.3m to 4.5m in two widths, starting at 375kg unladen. Base build prices start at £6,250 plus VAT, and every size, weight and price is published further down this page.
Every build leaves with its Certificate of Conformity, issued by Chris Trailers as the approved manufacturer. That is what makes registration straightforward and allows the trailer to be traded legally across Europe.

Weight is the whole point of a catering pod
Every other decision follows from it. A pod runs from 375kg to 942kg unladen, against 1,220kg to 1,950kg for an Airstream, and that difference is what puts a catering business within reach of whatever is already on your driveway.
A category B car licence issued from 1 January 1997 allows you to tow a trailer up to 3,500kg maximum authorised mass. Every pod we build sits a long way inside that, so the licence is rarely the limiting factor. What matters more is your own vehicle’s towing capacity and the plated weight of the specific unit, and we will confirm both before you commit to a size.
Single axle or double axle
The two ranges are built for different jobs rather than being better and worse versions of each other.
Single axle, 2.3m to 3.4m, 375kg to 575kg
The lightest and cheapest route in, from £6,250 plus VAT. Unbraked as standard, with a braked Al-Ko axle and coupling available as an option. It suits a one person operation, a market pitch or a regular round where the pod is hitched and unhitched often.
Double axle, 3.0m to 4.5m, 704kg to 942kg
Braked, steadier on the road at speed and steadier underfoot when two people are working inside. The extra length is where fridges, extraction and a longer counter run fit without crowding the serving hatch.
Which width, 1.65m or 2.0m
The narrow body tows and stores more easily and keeps the weight down. The 2.0m body gives you room to turn round behind the counter, which is the difference between a pod one person can work in and a pod two people can work in. Fridge and extraction fit-outs generally want the wider body.
Both widths are 2,300mm high and use the same standard specification: double sink with hot and cold water, water tanks, a 12 volt pump, ten LED ceiling lights and eight in the hatch, six sockets on a fused box and grade 304 stainless counters.
Pods built and ready to collect
Alongside the build-to-order range there are finished pods in stock, priced complete and including VAT rather than as a base build. Sizes, colours and fit-out vary as units sell, so the stock list is the place to see what is actually available today.

How much does a catering pod cost?
A new catering pod built to your specification starts at £6,250 plus VAT for a 2.3m single axle unit and runs to £11,890 plus VAT for a 4.5m double axle. That is the base build, which is the pod before fit-out. Optional equipment such as a braked axle, a fridge, extraction or a gas bottle box is priced separately and listed on this page. Pods already built and ready to collect are priced complete, including VAT, on the stock list.
Can I tow a catering pod with an ordinary car?
Usually yes.
